Rohit Sharma fined INR 12 Lakh for maintaining slow passing rate in DCvsMI game: Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Rohit Sharma was handed INR 12 Lakhs penalty after his side failed to maintain a good passing rate in the game against Delhi Capitals (DC) which they lost by four wickets at Brabourne Stadium.
As it was the first offense committed by the Mumbai skipper, INR 12 Lakhs were fined by the IPL as a warning. The penalty will become more severe after a team repeatedly commits the same infraction.
“Mumbai Indians have been fined after maintaining a slow passing rate in their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 game against Delhi Capitals at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai on March 27th. As it was the team's first breach of the season under IPL's Code of Conduct for breaches above the minimum rate, Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma was fined of Rs 12 lakhs,” read an official statement from IPL.
Mumbai Indians (MI) lost the game to Delhi Capitals (DC) after Axar Patel and Lalit Yadav unleashed their fantastic performances at Brabourne Stadium. The two aforementioned players hit the Mumbai bowlers for fun and chased an above-average total of 177 carries in just 18.2 overs.
Notably, with the loss, Mumbai Indians continued their ritual of not winning the opening game since IPL 2012.
Meanwhile, veteran spinner Kuldeep Yadav was voted player of the match for his sensational four-over spell in which he scalped three wickets.
On the other side, Mumbai Indians also had some positives in their game. Skipper Rohit Sharma and opening partner Ishan Kishan were in sublime contact as both batters scored good runs for the team. While Rohit contested for 41 runs, Ishan Kishan remained undefeated on 81 runs in 48 deliveries.
The five-time champions Mumbai Indians will next face Sanju Samson's Rajasthan Royals (RR) on April 2 at DY Patil Stadium for their second game.
